JoltLine is a free, ad-free earthquake tracking tool. We collect minimal data and use it only to understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
What We Collect
When you visit JoltLine, Google Analytics may collect the following information:
- Pages visited and time spent on the site
- General geographic location (country/city level — not your precise location)
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- Referring website (how you found us)
We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information. We do not have user accounts or registration.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to distinguish returning visitors and track session activity. These cookies are only placed if you accept analytics below.
- _ga — distinguishes users (expires 2 years)
- _ga_* — maintains session state (expires 2 years)
We also store a single preference key (joltline-ga-consent) in your browser's localStorage to remember your analytics choice. This key contains no personal data.
Google Analytics
Analytics data is processed by Google. You can learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out globally using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Data Sources
Earthquake data is fetched directly from public APIs:
- USGS Earthquake Hazards Program
- AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey)
No personal data is sent to these services. They receive only standard HTTP request headers (IP address, browser agent) as part of normal web requests.
Third-Party Services
JoltLine loads resources from the following external services:
- Google Fonts — typography (Bebas Neue, Space Mono, DM Sans)
- CARTO / OpenStreetMap — map tiles
- Cloudflare CDN — Leaflet.js map library
- Google Analytics — site usage analytics (consent-gated)
